Thursdays Travel

Captains Log Canal Date 7th May 2009 Travels 10 miles 0 locks Current Location SP 40303-98605 Near the village of Dadlington Set off from moorings at the crack of dawn, about 10.30. We had been travelling for less than 5 minutes when we saw Roy & June coming the other way in their boat “Footsee 100”. A chance in a million (must do the lotto this week) After a bit of nifty reverse parking we both managed to moor up. The canal is very shallow along most of the banks so we could not get right in so it left us both with a large step to get on & off. After drinking coffee and putting the world to rights yet again we said out good bys and set off in opposite directions. Weather was fine and sunny but still a bit windy. The canal meanders along, locks free and is a most delightful place to be. Spotted birds that I don’t know, must read that book again! Spotted a very large Red Eared Terrapin basking in the sun, obviously a discarded pet. Found a nice quite mooring spot but again had difficulties with the shallow edges. Completely open countryside with Rape seed growing in all direction. I looks nice but plays havoc with our hay-fever! Lets see what tomorrow brings.
