Summer Lightning

Captains Log Canal Date 15th June 2009 Travels 5.5 miles 8 locks 1 small staircase Current Location Just east of Leamington Spa OS Ref SP36153 – 64535 Lat – Long 52 16’408N 1 28’17.9W Well, after spending 10 nights moored outside the Blue lias pub it was time to move on. Our stay at the Blue Lias was very good; we ate or drank in there most nights, costing much more than is good for my wallet. It was really nice to meet up with friends from the MROC over the last weekend. I could have stopped longer but the batteries were getting quite low. So it came to moving, we do not want to go very far today, just enough to recharge the batteries so we did not set off at the crack of dawn, we had just an early start at about 11.00. I am very proud of us both; we travelled with out a break, not even a cup of coffee! The journey was more locks than miles and as is the norm – most of them were against us. It started to spit with rain soon into the journey which rapidly turned into a typical Summer Storm, very heavy rain - thunder bolts & lightning very very frightening etc etc. Poor Pam was just as wet as if she had gone for a swim. We do not like mooring in large towns so we were looking for a nice rural spot. We eventually found one and dropped anchor. Still more thunder and rain! A proper English summer’s day. We may stay here for another day before going through Leamington & Warwick, and then we have to face the 21 locks at Hatton. Such Joy!!
